Egypt has announced plans to expand its agricultural exports to Arab and Gulf markets as part of efforts to strengthen regional food security and boost the country’s economy.
According to Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, the government is working to facilitate the flow of agricultural products to neighbouring Arab countries, particularly Gulf states such as the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain. The initiative is being coordinated through Egypt’s agricultural quarantine authorities to ensure smoother export procedures and compliance with import standards in those markets.
Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk said the move aims to enhance Egypt’s presence in regional markets while ensuring a steady supply of food products to countries facing supply disruptions. Authorities have also been instructed to closely monitor regional developments and their impact on trade routes and supply chains.
Demand for several Egyptian crops has reportedly increased in Arab markets, particularly for vegetables and fruits such as peppers, lettuce and lemons. Officials believe expanding shipments of these products will help increase export revenues and reinforce Egypt’s role as a reliable supplier of food to the region.
The plan comes at a time when geopolitical tensions in the Middle East are affecting supply chains and global trade flows, prompting Egypt to step up efforts to maintain agricultural trade with neighbouring countries.

Agriculture has become a key contributor to Egypt’s economy. In 2025, the country’s fresh and processed agricultural exports reached about $11.5 billion, accounting for roughly 24 percent of total exports, with citrus fruits, potatoes and onions among the leading products shipped abroad.
Officials say strengthening agricultural exports to Arab and Gulf markets will not only support regional food security but also generate valuable foreign exchange and promote economic growth in Egypt.
